How to declutter your wardrobe
The full wardrobe you still can’t find anything in — almost everyone knows it. This is how I do it with my clients in Zurich, and how you can tackle it on your own.

1. Don’t tidy up first
Start with the wardrobe as it really looks day to day. If you “quickly tidy up” beforehand, you end up sorting a version of your wardrobe that doesn’t exist.
2. Take everything out once
Wardrobe, drawers, shoes: take every piece out. It’s the only way to see what you really own — and what has been hanging at the back for years.
3. Three simple questions
Does it still fit? Does it still feel like me? Have I worn it in the last two years? If the answer is no twice, the piece can go.
4. Sort and group
Put what stays together by type: trousers, skirts, tops, knitwear, jackets. You’ll see straight away where you have too much and where there is a real gap.
5. Build outfits — the real work
Order alone doesn’t help much if the pieces don’t go together. Combine what stays into finished outfits and take a photo of each. In the morning you reach for a look, not a single piece.
6. Let go — and get it out of the way
A bag of discarded clothes in the hallway tends to drift back into the wardrobe. Decide straight away: sell what has value, donate the rest. I sell well-kept designer pieces for you through ALMA Pre-loved, collected from your home.
On your own or with help?
On your own works if you have time and find it easy to let go. Help is worth it when your life has changed — a new job, a move, a baby — or when you get stuck on every piece. In a wardrobe detox we go through everything together in 3 to 4 hours and you get your outfits as a PDF.
